There are three common types of chimney in the UK that are typically used with a wood burning / multi fuel stove. The traditional brick chimney is the most commonly found, and it is common for people to have the brick chimney lined with a stainless steel flexible flue liner in order to preserve and maintain the condition of the chimney and to increase the efficiency of the multi-fuel appliance. Typically an installation of the flexible liner and connection to the stove can be carried out in one day, with very little disruption to the property. The other option is to have a free standing chimney system, which can be crated using twin wall insulated chimney pipe. 

Many people choose to have a free standing stove in rooms where there is no conventional brick chimney present. This can be achieved with a free standing metal flue chimney system which is insulated so that it does not cause heat damage, or risk of fire to the property. Typically the flue pipe will be finished in black, or mirror stainless steel, and will be routed from the appliance through an external facing wall, or up through the ceiling and out through the roof of the property.
